Q: Why should I get a personal trainer?

A: If you're here, you're clearly thinking about changing your life in terms of fitness. Maybe you want to lose weight for a special event, you're trying to lose that stubborn post-baby weight, or you just know you're not living the best lifestyle you can. Do you feel trapped in your own body? Are you worried that your cholesterol or blood pressure is putting you at serious risk? Just want to be able to fit in your old clothes or buy the new stuff that looks so good on the hanger? If you have a reason, I have a way.

But let me remind you, this isn't about being super skinny. This is about healthy. I do not and will not encourage anyone to become smaller than they should. Being too small for your frame is dangerous! In fact, skinny does not equal fit. And fit is our goal.

Another reason to consider a personal trainer is motivation. Women's Health reports that according to research "50% of those who start an exercise program, drop out within 6 months." Are you one of those people? Have you tried before but just couldn't stay motivated? Having a personal trainer keeps motivation and accountability levels high.

It doesn't matter if you're super skinny, but want to get toned, or if you're a hundred pounds overweight.. I can help. I'll work with you to set a realistic goal, and then get you there.

There are many reasons a personal trainer is beneficial, because a personal trainer:

- has the information and training necessary to train you safely and effectively
- will help create a plan for you, and keep you on schedule
- track your progress with various assessments
- will keep you motivated and accountable

So really, the only question is, "What do you want out of this?"

Q: How often will I have sessions?

A: That's completely up to you. I recommend, at a bare minimum, one session every two weeks. If you choose that option though, be aware that you'll have to work harder on your own to stay on the plan without me being there on a regular basis.

To summarize, you can choose the frequency. It can be once every two week, once a week, or twice a week. You pay per session, so pick what works for your budget and your goals.

Take a look at the Services page for pricing.

Q: How do I know you're qualified to be my personal trainer?

A: I've completed courses through NASM and am in the process of being certified  through NFPT (see Links page for more information). Both organizations are NCCA certified. To maintain my certification, I have to continue my education by so many hours and/or fitness courses each year.

Q: I have physical limitations. Can you work around them?

A: The short answer is yes. There are very few things that can't be worked around. If it's an injury to one part of the body, we'll just work another part until you're recovered and ready. If it's a permanent limitation, I'll research it and come up with a plan that works for you.

If you are on medications or have medical issues, make sure to let me know. The more information I have, the safer it is for both of us.

Remember, you should always consult a physician before starting any exercise program.

Q: Where do you train me?

A: I'll train you in your home, or occasionally near your home in an outdoor setting. I find that people use the weather as an excuse too often; whether it's too cold, too hot, raining, or snowing. There are too many reasons to avoid exercise if you plan it for an outdoor setting. Therefore, I like to always set up an indoor plan. It's easier to control your environment and safety. And of course, that means you don't have to travel to a gym. That's more convenience for you.

Q: If you're training me at home, do I need special equipment?

A: No. If you have exercise equipment, we may use it. We may not. We may even use basic household items, like sturdy chairs. Either way, I'll bring a few essential items to be used in your training. In fact, one of the benefits of having a trainer is learning how much success you can have with very little equipment cost.

Q: If I'd like to have my own equipment, what do you recommend?

A: Other than a treadmill or elliptical machine, there are some very basic and fairly cheap items that will benefit you greatly for training; especially on days when I'm not training you.

These include:

the Valslide - "It's deceptively simple and incredibly effective." - Jennifer Garner

water bottle (hydration is a MUST!) - look for one that is BPA free
resistance bands
appropriate, comfortable, and supportive sneakers
set of dumbells (adjustable dumbells are ideal) appropriate for your strength level
an exercise mat
stability ball
heart rate monitor (I personally like Mio watches)

Q: Do you work with children?

A: Children age 13 and up, qualify for service. (a parent/legal guardian will need to co-sign paperwork)
That said, I have a couple things to add about childhood obesity...

I'm liking the new wave of fitness/motion videogames. It's not the solution, but it's a start.. to at least involving some activity. So, I'd start switching out standard games with as many of those as possible.

I also think parents just needs to change what's in the pantry. Kids won't eat as much junk if it's not there. Children do NOT want to be fat. Oftentimes, they're filling a void. It's a parent's job.. and all of our jobs really.. to figure out what that void is before they turn to unhealthy means of coping.

Q: How can I pay for services?

A: Cash, checks, money orders, and PayPal are currently accepted. You must pay in advance of services. How often you submit payment will depend on which package you choose, and how quickly you use your sessions. See Services page for details. You pay per training session. So your fee will depend on how many trainings you want each week. If an appointment is missed at fault of the client, without at least 24 hours notice, no refund will be provided (refund will be considered for verifiable emergency or significant injury/illness). If appointment is missed at fault of trainer, refund will always be offered if rescheduling is not an option for both parties.

Q: When are you available?

A: Currently, I'm available some mornings, most evenings, and some weekends. Contact me. We will sit down and determine the best schedule, in order to reach your goals and what works best with your budget.

Once we've established your package choice and desired schedule, you are free to schedule your appointments online whenever you feel like it. You can also cancel online if it's within 24 hours of your appointment.
